Grey cast iron and concrete have similar thermal expansion coefficients and deformability.
The optimum combination of materials (cast iron for tensile forces and concrete for compression) noticeably improves product strength.
At the limit of tensile strength both materials (grey cast iron and concrete) do not deform.
